Ok….This Cree needs some help…so I am relying on YOU…warriors, brothers and sistahs…;-) to reach into your brainbox and give me some feedback….
We are on the threshold of revolutionizing Media, TV and Radio by attempting to literally be bringing the first independently owned NDN Production Company to the planet…with live broadcast, podcast, music, independent film making and Tribal news casting…we are at the moment sitting on an incredible script…that literally has the potential to ROCK the HELL out of this country, with regards to NDN movie making…
we want to keep “white” Americas, hands out of the production period ( as to funding since we will not accept a change in Production / Owner terms…it will BE American Indian period ) …that said…we need everyone to pull together to come up with the Budget to pull this off,
NOW I have never been known to sugar coat things in the past and wont start now…the Budget is set at $3 Million….can we as a people pull this off I think we can, can we do this and within this create jobs for NDNS, better living conditions, and also bring GLOBAL awareness THAT WE ARE VERY MUCH THE FOUNDATION OF THIS COUNTRY…and no longer have to be looked for, in the lost and found… that our planet is dying, and our resources are being stripped to a bare cold nothingness…I belief that we can shift awareness and this with all my heart as a NDN Woman, Mother and Caregiver to the Tribe!!!
NATV has done a incredible job so far…yet…we want to rock Hollywood…back into reality…of what it means to TRULY be NDN NOW…not some glorified version of some white mans version / interpretation or what have you of what “we” are or were for that matter…Dances with Wolves….NO….of course there are a few movies out here that did hit home a bit…but still, realizing when we turn on our TV sets at night that we are not represented within the media pool at all is and has been getting on my last nerve…I mean honestly, when is the last time you seen a sitcom on a NDN family ( now picture that…YES I want you to Visualize )…and it being shown nightly…TRY NEVER and no George Lopez does not count nor is he NDN ! We just don’t have any representation at all on Nat’l TV, this needs to change.
Don’t you want your kids to see that…I do…why is it that we have pretty much every ethnic group covered in some way or another…( uhhmmm we even have Japanese TV ) what are we still invisible…shadow walkers for sure ?…WE can change this…but like everything it does take funding, dedication and us as a people pulling together…the monies generated thru independent film making and NDN media…can be channeled to do so much good…and then pool into other aspects of marketing, … a people that will remain strong in their culture, vision and resolve to not feed into the glamour after it is all said and done…we have some already great and famous actors…but truthfully, has that changed TV or how the world knows us and learns of and from us???? NO
